Summary

Is there a ridiculous amount of Elvish poetry? Yes。Does Tolkien really describe days of travel where all the characters do is look at trees? This new Illustrated Edition is a Marvel! So beautiful! To manage, still prefer the Leather Bound edition I already had - The Lord of the Rings-, as the cover is very malleable。 This new Illustrated Edition is a Marvel! So beautiful!

This illustrated hardback is a beautiful production of one of my favorite reads。 I love the decoration on the page edges, and the illustrations! 32, to be precise (and contrary to other reviews I've seen, they get started right away - i。e。 pages i and v in the intro, and pages 20, 26, and 48-ish)。The two included maps fold out to a really nice size; I love that I can take them out and peruse as desired, especially in the larger size--really helps me dive in (compared to other copies of the book, This illustrated hardback is a beautiful production of one of my favorite reads。 I love the decoration on the page edges, and the illustrations! 32, to be precise (and contrary to other reviews I've seen, they get started right away - i。e。 pages i and v in the intro, and pages 20, 26, and 48-ish)。The two included maps fold out to a really nice size; I love that I can take them out and peruse as desired, especially in the larger size--really helps me dive in (compared to other copies of the book, where the maps are bound in with the rest of the text)。Absolutely love it。 。。。more

This is still my favorite fantasy story of all time。 Every time I picked this book up for my evening reading, it felt like coming home。 P。s。 I also love that I now get the Silmarillion references。

Kahden vuoden rupeaman loppu!

This was a brand new publication of the Lord of the Rings which was illustrated with original artwork from Tolkien himself, and this really added a whole new level of immersion to reading my favourite series。 I have individual reviews for each book within the "trilogy" so not going to repeat myself here。 This was a brand new publication of the Lord of the Rings which was illustrated with original artwork from Tolkien himself, and this really added a whole new level of immersion to reading my favourite series。 I have individual reviews for each book within the "trilogy" so not going to repeat myself here。 。。。more

This is a classic that is actually worth the hype。

I couldn’t bring myself to finish this book…。it was so so boring。 My “date finished” is the date I gave up on Lord of the Rings。 I was super excited to read this series, and I pushed through The Fellowship of the Ring despite it being boring and not wholly understanding the story, but I just couldn’t get through The Two Towers, much to my disappointment。 This was a really underwhelming book。

This edition contained all three books so I basically got to read them as one big story, 5/5 for fellowship, 4/5 for two towers, and like 4。5/5 for return of the king。 Overall, I think I prefer the movies since some of these battles and such are just too incredible to just read about, or worse, have a few characters discuss what happened "off screen" as it were。 This edition contained all three books so I basically got to read them as one big story, 5/5 for fellowship, 4/5 for two towers, and like 4。5/5 for return of the king。 Overall, I think I prefer the movies since some of these battles and such are just too incredible to just read about, or worse, have a few characters discuss what happened "off screen" as it were。 。。。more

Decided to add the book again with the right ISBN for the edition I physically own (which amounts to a single entry for the whole collection)。Was not the biggest fan of the Fellowship of the Ring, but I was really happy with the other 2 parts

Loved the beginning but the end left it hard for me to pick up the next book。

I'm honestly not sure what I can say that could possibly add to the already abundance of praise heaped on the best and most epic fantasy novel of all time。 Sheer beauty。 I'm honestly not sure what I can say that could possibly add to the already abundance of praise heaped on the best and most epic fantasy novel of all time。 Sheer beauty。 。。。more

The best, of course! It is written in a pure, old-fashioned, just plain enjoyable manner。 Though some modern readers might find the older style of language a little tedious to get through, it is well worth the effort to read this classic。 J。R。R。 Tolkien creates a natural feel of whimsy and fun that doesn't make it into the movie trilogy, such as with Tom Bombadil。 This book is such a fantastic example of intricate and detailed world-building, and has influenced my own writings a great deal。 Give The best, of course!
